Dimakatso Mitchell Sowana is an emerging South African author and a leading voice in contract law, risk management, and legal advocacy. With over 13 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors, she brings deep expertise as a Contracts Guru, Legal Advisor, and Risk Management Specialist, currently occupying as a Contracts Manager at Vodacom.
Her debut book, The Contracts Guru Handbook & Guide, is fast becoming an essential resource, praised for its clarity, accessibility, and relevance to both seasoned professionals and emerging legal minds.
Hailing from the province of Mpumalanga, Dimakatso’s story is one of resilience, discipline, and purpose. She is a graduate of the University of Limpopo (LLB), currently completing her Master’s in Management (Governance and Management) at Wits University, with further credentials from the University of Cape Town and University of Pretoria in contract law, risk, and civil society law.
Professionally, she has previously held pivotal legal and advisory roles at Liberty Group South Africa, AECOM, the Department of Science and Technology, and the Department of Tourism, among others. She is also the founder of the “Contracts Guru Platform” and “Bophelo ke Contract” initiative – creative spaces that promote legal literacy and contract empowerment for professionals, freelancers, and small businesses alike.
Her commitment to justice extends far beyond the corporate world. A passionate Humanitarian and Independent Activist, Dimakatso began her advocacy as a student leader at the University of Limpopo, where she served as Projects and Community Outreach Representative on the SRC and led initiatives under the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter. Her early leadership was marked by a strong focus on community impact and empowerment, principles that continue to guide her work today.
She also contributed to platforms such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations Volunteer Programme, advocating for the rights of displaced and vulnerable populations, particularly women and children. Dimakatso has featured on SABC News, eNCA, Lesedi FM, and Jozi FM, where she educates the public on legal issues and contract awareness. She is a part of the IWFSA’s Young Leaders Connect – IDEAL programme, Lincoln Mali Leadership Summit delegate, and a 2024 Young Leaders Awards nominee, recognised for her commitment to ethical leadership and community empowerment.
